Elnusa Petrofin and PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), officially held the Go Live of the Initial Transport of Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (LSFO) in Balikpapan on Wednesday (28/5), in the seas of East Kalimantan. This activity marks the start of strategic cooperation between the two companies in supporting the smooth distribution of energy for the operation of national power plants.
This first transport was carried out under the Ship to Ship (STS) scheme, which is the transfer of LSFO cargo from the loading vessel in Balikpapan waters to the receiving vessel that is docked in Bontang harbour. This scheme was chosen due to its efficiency in supporting energy supply chains across regions, especially in the territorial waters of East Kalimantan.

This Go Live is also a realisation of Elnusa Petrofin’s role in strengthening the national energy distribution system. With strong experience in the field of industrial fuel transportation and distribution, the Company continues to expand its service range through partnerships with strategic entities such as PLN EPI, in order to ensure reliable and timely supply of primary energy for electricity generation needs in various regions.
In addition to expanding its portfolio in the industrial fuel logistics sector, this project also contributes to the efforts to strengthen national energy security. Elnusa Petrofin supports the energy ecosystem through low-sulphur fuel distribution services, in accordance with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) mandate regarding ship fuel with a maximum sulphur content of 0.5% wt, effective from 2020.

All transport activities are carried out by applying high standards in safety and operational aspects. Elnusa Petrofin as a national energy logistics operator implements strict procedures in accordance with Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) principles, including securing cargo, protecting operational teams, and mitigating risks to the surrounding environment, especially in maritime areas that need extra attention.
Elnusa Petrofin is committed to continuing to contribute more broadly to the national energy sector. Going forward, Elnusa Petrofin and PLN EPI are expected to continue to develop cooperation in the provision and distribution of safe, efficient and sustainable energy, by building a reliable energy ecosystem.
