The National Occupational Health and Safety (K3) Month is an annual event that serves as a moment to remind for all industry players, including PT Elnusa Petrofin, to reflect on aspects of Occupational Health and Safety.
Elnusa Petrofin strives continuously to enhance the culture of occupational health and safety by focusing on various aspects such as Man (HR), Machine (Work Equipment and Machines), Method (Work Procedures), and Technology. In addition to reinforcing the K3 culture externally, Elnusa Petrofin also emphasizes strengthening the quality of its human resources by promoting healthy and principled employees to support superior occupational health and safety.
To encourage this commitment, Elnusa Petrofin conducted drugs check for 6,589 workers in 64 operations units throughout 2022, particularly in the logistics services work area, such as the Fuel Terminal and the Pertamina Integrated Terminal. The drugs examination was done through urine tests and included Car-Tank Crew (AMT) or drivers, and supporting unit that involved in the operating area. This activity aligns with the theme of the 2023 National Occupational Health and Safety Month “Realizing Decent Work with an Occupational Health and Safety Culture to Support Business Continuity in the Workplace.”
Aditya Budi Prabowo, the President Director of Elnusa Petrofin, emphasized that “Drugs Examination through this urine test is one of our efforts to ensure that all Elnusa Petrofin workers maintain their health and promote K3 strengthening in all their work activities. We also involve external parties to ensure the validity of the tests carried out.” Aditya added, “We believe that the quality of human resources with integrity and superiority upholds a work safety culture so as to encourage the creation of operational excellence.”
External parties, namely The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the local Regional General Hospital (RSUD), carried out the urine test examinations. The examination percentage reached 100%, except for those who could not participate due to illness or inability to attend.
Elnusa Petrofin imposes strict sanctions, such as Termination of Employment (PHK), on employees with positive indications of drug use. This sanction is included in the company regulations and policies that have been socialized every year. The sanction is implemented as a deterrent effect, and workers who maintain Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) rules will be rewarded.
Elnusa Petrofin received appreciation from the National Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNN) in a number of areas for initiating the drug examination through urine, including the West Sumatra Province National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and Jambi Province National Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNN). Elnusa Petrofin’s active role in supporting the P4GN program (Prevention, Eradication, Abuse, and Illicit Narcotics) is also recognized by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).
In addition to conducting urine tests, Elnusa Petrofin also carries out various preventive efforts to prevent drug use among its employees, including conducting drugs inspections twice a year, safety briefings with the theme of drugs at least once every two months, and presenting the National Narcotics Agency as a speaker about drugs during Defensive Driving Training activities. HSSE also issues HSSE Alerts regarding the dangers of drugs every six months through the Whatsapp Group (WAG) and via email every three months. Campaigns through flyers about drugs are also distributed to all employees every six months. “This achievement in preventing drugs use is one of Elnusa Petrofin’s efforts to support the HSSE culture and strengthen the K3 culture within the company. We hope that the strategy implemented this year is in line with the month Health and Safety and can also increase the percentage of negative indications in 2023. We hope that all the initiatives carried out by management will become Elnusa Petrofin’s commitment to operational excellence in 2023,” Aditya concluded.
